How do you translate "siegen vor"? Come in ahead of someone else? Or just beat him or her?

Hi Connie,

"come in ahead of" is better here. "He beat" is also correct, but that would be more appropriate if just two were competing.

It would be helpful though, if you would give us some context (the sentence or phrase) as this is often decisive for the translation.

Thank you, Fishnchips. I decided on "won the competition ahead of" the other person mentioned in the sentence. I appreciate your suggestion to submit more context next time. It would probably help if I posted in the correct forum, too... ;)
