-
Frevo, a typical Northeastern quickstep dance originated in the late 19th century. The dancers hold umbrellas and perform individual choreographies, including agile kicking movements. Especially in Pernambuco, Frevo is the beat that moves throngs of Carnival dancers, who seemingly “boil” to the music: frevo is etymologically related to the verb “to boil”.
