All this found fulfilment and completion in Jesus : he inaugurated God ’ s presence in history in a new way, because whoever sees him, sees the Father, as he said to Philip ( cf. Jn 14:9 ) . In the patristic and medieval tradition a special formula is used to express this reality: it says that Jesus is the Verbum abbreviatum ( cf.
