www.businesswire.deTogether with the University of Oxford, Enni Markkanen, a veterinarian in the working group of Prof. Ulrich Hübscher from the Institute of Veterinary Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Zurich has decoded and characterized the repair mechanism for the mutated DNA bases.
This mechanism efficiently copies thousands of 8-oxo-guanines without their harmful mutations, thus normally preventing the negative consequences of 8-oxo-guanine damage.
In their study, published in "PNAS", the researchers outline the detailed processes involved in the local and temporal coordination of this repair mechanism.
www.mediadesk.uzh.chGemeinsam mit der Universität Oxford hat nun die Veterinärin Enni Markkanen aus der Arbeitsgruppe von Prof. Ulrich Hübscher, vom Institut für Veterinärbiochemie und Molekularbiologie der Universität Zürich, den Reparaturmechanismus für die veränderten DNA-Basen entschlüsselt und charakterisiert.
Dieser Mechanismus kopiert effizient tausende von 8-oxo-Guaninen ohne deren schadhaften Veränderungen und vermindert somit im Normalfall die schlimmen Konsequenzen der 8-oxo-Guanin-Schäden.
Die Forscher zeigen in ihrer in «PNAS» veröffentlichen Arbeit die detaillierten Abläufe der örtlichen und zeitlichen Koordination dieses Reperaturmechanismus’ auf.
