Ausgangspunkt ist die Erweiterung des Messbereichs vorhandener Verfahren wie die Leistungsmessung mit der Schallstrahlungskraftwaage, die Messung der Schalldruckverteilung mit Hydrophonen und faseroptischen Sensoren sowie die ortsaufgelöste Messung der Intensität mit thermoakustischen Sensoren.
Die Forschung des Fachbereiches auf diesem Gebiet ist angebunden an das EURAMET-‚Joint Research Project' mit dem Titel 'External Beam Cancer Therapy' (EBCT), welches von der Europäischen Kommission im Rahmen des iMERA-Programmes unterstützt wird.
