Stephan Kimmig, geboren 1959 in Stuttgart, studierte von 1981 – 1984 Schauspiele an der Neuen Münchner Schauspielschule ; anschließend Regieassistenzen am Berliner Schillertheater.
Von 1988 bis 1996 lebte Kimmig in Amsterdam und inszeniert als freier Regisseur in der niederländischen und belgischen Off-Theater-Szene. 1991 engagierte ihn der Intendant der Städtischen Bühnen Freiburg , Friedrich Schirmer , erstmals wieder in Deutschland .
Als Schirmer die Leitung des Schauspiels Stuttgart übernahm, wurde Kimmig von 1998 bis 2000 dort fester Regisseur.
