Mehr als 70 Prozent der Bevölkerung leben im ländlichen Raum.

Context The young nation of Timor-Leste suffers from food shortages.
Over 70 per cent of the population lives in rural areas, the majority being subsistence farmers who cultivate crops such as rice, corn, beans and starchy tubers on less than two hectares of land.

Nahrungsmittelknappheit und fehlende Einkommensmöglichkeiten sind ein Dauerthema.
Seit 2010 unterstützt SWISSAID daher ein Projekt der Partnerorganisation „ Ninghtoi Gintawng Banmaw Local Development Organization “ ( Banmaw LDO ), in dem betroffenen Familien mit der Gründung von Selbsthilfegruppen und der Abgabe von Nutztieren unter die Arme gegriffen wird.

Since 2010, SWISSAID has been supporting a project run by the partner organisation, “ Ninghtoi Gintawng Banmaw Local Development Organization ” ( Banmaw LDO ), which offers assistance to the affected families by setting up self-help groups and providing working animals.

1999 errichtet, unterstützt das UNCCD die Umsetzung des Abkommens gegen den Verlust fruchtbaren Bodens und fortschreitender Trockenheit – beides Ursachen für Nahrungsmittelknappheit und Hungersnöte.
Es bereitet die Tagungen der Vertragsstaatenkonferenzen vor und unterstützt Entwicklungsländer vor allem in Afrika.

Established in 1999, the UNCCD supports implementation of the agreement on the loss of fertile soil and progressive drought – both of which are causes of food shortages and famines.
It prepares meetings of the conferences of the parties to the convention and supports developing countries, especially in Africa.
