Im Deutschen Ressourceneffizienzprogramm (ProgRess) hat sie die Absicht bekundet, künftig sowohl die indirekten Ressourcenaufwendungen über Importe als auch genutzte und ungenutzte Extraktion von Primärmaterial zu berücksichtigen.
Das Wuppertal Institut erarbeitet hierzu im Projekt PolRess Vorschläge.
