The second workshop from November 28-30, 2008 in Vienna examined the consequences of Stalinism in different Eastern and Western European countries as well as the effects of the collectivization of the 30s.
It started with a public panel discussion with Stefan Troebst, Timothy Snyder, Hans Rauscher and Heidemarie Uhle.

They provide insight into the Surrealist roots of his work and illustrate his path towards abstraction, while at the same time documenting the repressive years of Stalinism in Hungary.
A special focus is laid on the models of his sculptural oeuvre, which were realized as monumental sculptures in public spaces both in Hungary and in Barta’s adopted home on the Rhine.
