Aus diesen so genannten Areolen entwickeln sich die Dornen und große Blüten mit einem Durchmesser von 15 bis 27 Zentimetern, die sehr im Kontrast zur struppigen Kargheit der Königin der Nacht stehen.
Außen sind die Blüten braungelb, zur Mitte hin ändert sich die Farbe über hellgelb bis weiß.
Wahre Königinnen der Nacht sind diese Blüten.
