www.gaborone.diplo.deOne of the goals I have set myself as chairperson of the upcoming 39th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee, to be held in Bonn, Germany, in June 2015, is to spotlight even more the rich heritage of the African continent.
I therefore wish to encourage all countries in Africa to follow the example of Botswana and to embark on the long and complex but ultimately worthwhile road of UNESCO World Heritage nomination and inscription.

www.gaborone.diplo.deFür meine Aufgabe als Vorsitzende der kommenden 39. Sitzung des UNESCO-Welterbekomitee, die im Juni 2015 in Deutschland in Bonn stattfinden wird, habe ich mir zum Ziel gemacht, das reiche Erbe des afrikanischen Kontinents noch stärker in den Blickpunkt zu rücken.
Ich kann die Länder Afrikas daher nur ermuntern, dem Vorbild Botsuanas zu folgen, und den langen und mühevollen, aber am Ende sehr lohnenswerten Weg zur Nominierung und Eintragung einer Welterbestätte in die Liste der UNESCO zu gehen.

Botswana is developing a test site for Baikea woodland and Mozambique a site for Mopane forest; Malawi and Zambia meanwhile are establishing a cross-border pilot site for Miombo woodland.
Technical working groups have been planned to focus on specific topics.
