Presse Info
- Also referred to as le quatrième pouvoir, the press plays a central role in French cultural life. The best-known and most respected French newspaper is Le Monde, which provides in-depth coverage of national and international news and is unusual in that it publishes virtually no photographs. National newspapers reflect the main political trends in public life (Le Figaro is associated with the right whereas Libération is a left-wing publication etc.). There are also several large-circulation regional newspapers (e.g. Ouest-France) as well as specialist publications like L'équipe, the sports daily. France publishes more than 15, 000 weekly and monthly magazines. The main French press agency is l'Agence France Presse (AFP).
